How cards work

Win a game, get a card. Every game gives a random card from the whole ladder below, with the same odds for the same kind of win.
Most cards are common, a few are very rare. The ladder below goes from common (top) to rarest (bottom).
Play better, get rarer cards. The harder your win, the better your chances on every rare rung.
Special editions beat every basic card. Basic cards start the season at 88 at most (Legend); the special editions (Award, Nickname, Slam Dunk, Clutch, Old School, Top Scorer, Anime, Team Legend) are 93 to 98, the better the player the higher. 99 is only for the 99 Club.
In special sets, the regular players come easier. A role player's card is a lot easier to get than the set's stars. Rookies and Sophomores under 85 come as often as a Gold; one rated 85+ as often as a Diamond.
Win the same card again and it upgrades: 2 copies = Shiny, 3 = Prismatic. Win a player you already have 3 of and you get 2 coins instead.
3 game cards a day. After that, every win still gives a coin (new cards tomorrow). Coins buy card packs in the Shop.
Secret achievements unlock cards too: Silver or Gold, and legendary Old School and Top Scorer cards for the hardest ones. Hints are on your My Cards page.
